Latino Consortium Seeks Spanish Speaking Foster Families

The Latino Consortium is an association representing a group of social service agencies operating under contract with the Illinois Department of Children Family Services (IDCFS). These agencies offer a variety of support and child protection services to Latino children and their families.

The Consortium is seeking bilingual and/or Spanish-speaking families in Chicago who are willing to join their foster care recruitment program. Foster parents are the people responsible for providing care to children who have been victimized by incidents of abuse and neglect. Read more

How big of a village does it take to raise a child? For Richard, who was raised in foster care, it was a group home with several boys and two houseparents. Prior to that, it was a series of foster homes, where Richard admits he wasn't always easy to handle. But he says he learned something positive from each of them. When he was older, and his apartment was flooded, his houseparents let him come back for a week until he could find other housing. He was family. Read more

LSSI Hosts Chicago Premiere and Panel Discussion of "Putting the Pieces Together: Lifebook Work with Children"

CHICAGO, IL — Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) has launched a new therapeutic tool to help children in foster care overcome trauma by documenting their life stories. Entitled "Putting the Pieces Together: Lifebook Work with Children," the new DVD will train child welfare professionals, as well as foster and adoptive parents, in using a Lifebook, a personalized timeline and memory book that serves as an evolving record of a child’s life. We are looking for alumni like you who want to help make foster care better by sharing how the foster parents in your life helped you succeed. By sharing your story you can change the way people perceive foster care and motivate more people to help other foster kids in Illinois.

* A former ward of the State of Illinois
* Currently live in Illinois
* Comfortable in front of a camera
